Housing, Safety, and Tenant Rights

Learn how to help yourself, family, friends & others navigate local resources to help improve their lives, address challenges or create positive change. This month's focus is around housing issues.

Come anytime during the event to participate, ask questions, and add your ideas and suggestions to the resources. If you cannot attend but want to participate, email connect@tscpl.org. 

Resources include: 

• Habitat for Humanity and home ownership and home repair resources
• Know Your Tenant Rights, Kansas Legal Services and HCCI
• Understanding EAS and Emergency Housing Resources
• Changing Our Culture of Property Maintenance and City of Topeka resources
• Neighborhood Improvement Associations, Block Talks, and hyper-local resources
• Safety data for your neighborhood and how to report concerns
• Housing and Safety in the Shawnee County Community Health Improvement Plan
• Additional information and resources around housing and safety

Many people are amazing helpers, but we can't do it all ourselves. Learn how to connect people to local resources, services and opportunities. Be more prepared with current local information, whether you are having a conversation with a neighbor over the backyard fence, chatting with someone in line at the grocery store, noticing a need on a social media post, or replying to a request from someone who has reached out to you.

Learn how to use community resource guides to get people to the next step on their path. We will also identify gaps in local resources, and share tips and challenges for helping others. We will conclude with self-care for people with helpful hearts as well as reviewing personal safety and boundaries.
