Ernie Webb dives into a Dover, Kansas, true crime story & the process of bringing the story to light through the writing of "Goodbye, Butterfly: Murder, faith and forgiveness in a small Kansas town."
Goodbye, Butterfly: Murder, faith and forgiveness in a small Kansas town began as a capstone assignment when Ernie Webb III was a graduate student at Washburn University. Now, as an alumnus and employee of Washburn, Webb's capstone assignment has grown into a full-blown book that shares the story of Brenda Keller's murder.
On Oct 19, 1991, the small town of Dover, Kansas, and the Keller family were forever changed. Brenda Keller the 12-year-old daughter of the town's pastor was abducted, raped and murdered by a man who should have been behind bars. Through unimaginable sadness the Keller family pushed forward relying heavily on their faith to live full lives dedicated to honoring their daughter.
Webb will discuss the process of bringing Brenda Keller's case to light. He will touch on why he wanted to write about it, how to find and engage with resources, how the library helped him in the writing process, and the dedication it takes to make a debut book a success.
