The River of Doubt: Theodore Roosevelt's Darkest Journey by Candice Millard chronicles the 1914 expedition of Roosevelt into the heart of the Amazon basin to explore and map the region surrounding a tributary called the River of Doubt. It details the perilous conditions they faced, which included river rapids, flesh eating bacteria and a cannibalistic indigenous tribe.
